2013 English Essay Contest Grand Prize Winner’s Remarks

I appreciate everything about this meaningful experience. I didn’t expect to receive this great prize for my essay. Currently, I am studying in Appalachian State University in the U.S.A as an exchange student. When I saw the announcement about the 2013 Essay Contest by the Chonnam Tribune, I thought it would be a good opportunity to check my English writing skills that I’m working hard on hard these days. As well, the topic was challenging enough to broaden my thoughts and perspective profoundly. By thinking and writing about the effect of digital technology, I could improve not only my perspective to produce a logical argument but also effective writing skills and vocabulary. Even though I’m majoring in English language and literature, I am often frustrated with my English writing, like other students who have difficulties with learning English. However, I believe the most effective way to develop language ability is by making mistakes as much as possible and learning from correcting those mistakes properly. The purpose of participating in this essay contest was also to try to write an essay within a limited time and get feedback again on the essay after submitting it. I’m very glad that I learned many things from this experience. I hope that all of you are not afraid of making mistakes, and to challenge your English ability with confidence. Every kind of challenge including this essay contest will be a valuable and helpful experience to improve yourself!
