▲ Students searching books on the second floor of CNU Library

Chonnam National University (CNU) will provide students with enhanced library services and resources. The CNU Library received about 80 million won (which charges 22 percent of the total Education Ability Enforcement Project) and decided to use this budget to improve its services such as enhancing resources and introducing a new web server. First, thanks to the increase of the book buying budget, CNU members can use more books and have more chances read books that they request to purchase through the library. Online library services will become better than now because of e-resource enhancement.  It now has more than one point four million e-materials including overseas academic papers and e-journals, which will increase. The number of e-books available has increased since the book lending of online books has increased sharply especially compared to the number of paper book rentals.
In addition to the improvement of the book searching system which has been used for 10 years, the function to limit searching outcomes by adding searching categories that helps find books will be faster and easier. By introducing a new library web server, its internet access speed will be greatly increased for not only computer users but people who access it via smart phones. Also, through providing multilingual supporting services by upgrading the Unicode such as Chinese and German languages, foreign students can use library services like borrowing books in a comfortable way without translating into English. Librarian Lim Yeo-jin said, “The increased budget will definitely affect students for better convenience and widened choices of books. They will be able to visit the library more often which will help them to become more intelligent in many ways by reading books.”
