As the new semester started, the Chonnam Tribune tried many changes in aspects of composition and design. I recognized a lot of efforts to diversify visual effects such as changing the composition of the first page and relocating te order of each article.
The most impressive thing in the 329th issue was the survey method, using the Social Network Service (SNS) to survey students at Chonnam National University (CNU). Although the question about 'attractive places on Yongbong campus' was simple, it was interesting to read various answers recommending the places that only a few people know or nobody recognizes.
The ”Desk Column” about SNS and Big Data caught my attention. Using SNS has some side effects including the risk of privacy exposure, but it has the advantage of delivering information in a fast way and drawing the attention of the public. So, I think that if we use SNS carefully, then it would be highly useful such as the Chonnam Tribune to promote itself for increasing the number of newspaper readers.
Also, a newly created column, ”Top News”, on the first page of the newspaper about international students from various countries gave me new information. I knew CNU has operated various programs for foreign students and many exchange students are satisfied with them. The programs will be very helpful for foreign students to adapt to life at CNU. As a reader of the Tribune, I believe that this English newspaper of CNU can also serve a significant role in connecting international students with Korean students.
