The 2013 Welcoming Ceremony for Yeungnam and Honam region exchange students

The 2013 Welcoming Ceremony for Yeungnam and Honam region exchange students was held at the Yong Bong Hall on May 29th, 2013 from 6p.m. to 9:30p.m. Many important figures attended the ceremony to welcome the exchange students including CNU President Ji Byung-moon, Gwangju Mayor Kang Un-tae and Congressman Lim Nae-hyun. The exchange program between the two regions was first held in 2003 with the main purpose of extinguishing regionalism. Lee Hung-man, president of the Gwangju Chapter of the Central Association for National Unification said, “I am satisfied with this year’s ceremony because there are many exchange students who participated in this program, last year there were not as many participants as this year. We will continue to aid this program as much as we can for the future.”  Park Sung-kyu exchange student representative (Kyungpook National University, Senior, Dept. of Food and Nutrition) said “CNU offers one the best exchange student program in Korea and this is my second term in the exchange program. I liked the system of choosing courses; the standards of the professors are high, and practical exercises are offered well in CNU.” Another exchange student from Kyungpook National University, Shin Myung-kyu (Junior, Dept. of Social Welfare) commented, “I have always wanted to come to Gwangju but had in my mind about the regionalism issue, I was surprised to see no regional discomfort from the CNU students. CNU seems more active than my university which was helpful for me to adapt.”
