5·18 역사 왜곡 시도에 대한 심포지엄

On May 15th, an academic symposium was held in the College of Humanities’ Lee Eul-ho Memorial Hall as part of the May 18 Democratic Movement’s 33rd commemoration events. The Gwangju Democratization Movement refers to an uprising in the city of Gwangju, South Korea from May 18 to 27, 1980. The event is sometimes called 518, in reference to the date the uprising began, and to include the other places where the effects of the movement spread to. The subject of this symposium was attempts at falsifying history and a way about corresponding strategy. Professors from CNU and other universities as well as experts about the 518 attended this symposium and contributed to the dialogue. The event mainly had two topics: the first one is the origin of distortion, issue and research of denial about 518, while the other section is Holocaust denial and New Right’s revolt of history, examples from abroad. This is the offering of CNU in light of the commemoration of the 518. Held annually, the General Student Council held a small concert and parade to increase awareness amongst students about the movement in 1980.
