As part of ‘Focus on Science’, monthly lecture series by the Institute of Basic Science at CNU, a lecture on “Two cultures, Scientific Technology and Risk Society” was provided by Kim Hwan-seok (Professor, Dept. of Sociology, Kukmin University) at the College of Natural Science Building 3, Room 101 last May 10th.  He gave speeches on the arising problems between two cultures: natural science and liberal arts. . Prof. Kim pointed out the development of scientific fields causes side effects. Proponents of natural science claim that they do not need to be concerned about the side effects of science, on the other hand, liberal arts supporters insist they have no reasons to take responsibility on problems like pollution even if it affects human. He emphasized the necessity for building bridges between these two sectors and recommended students to be opened for both sectors for their expansion of thoughts as our society requires a prepared man with flexible thinking.
