“Peace, Democracy, and Human Rights”, were three things that David Chatterson Canadian Ambassador to South Korea mentioned during his lecture, organized by Chonnam National University’s (CNU) Office of International Affairs (OIA) and was held at the Gwangju Bank Hall, 2nd floor of Graduate School of Business building on May 7th. This lecture targeted students who were interested or was in preparation for an exchange student program, as well as students who were interested in international affairs. David Chatterson began with introduction of Canada and its economy, society, geography, and the resources that she holds. Next was the main topic of this lecture “Canada and Middle Power Diplomacy”, where he emphasized the need for better communication between Canada and South Korea who are one of the middle powers. There were some influential questions answered during the Q&A session, regarding the working holiday in Canada, unemployment issues, and future diplomatic situation between the two countries. It is the first time that a Canadian Ambassador visited CNU. According to the website of the OIA (international.jnu.ac.kr), CNU has 6 partner universities in Canada including University of Winnipeg, University of the Fraser Valley and Memorial University of Newfoundland among others.
