Former Unification Minister Kim Ha-jung gave a lecture about China in the Yongbong Forum held last April 17th, 2013 at the Yongbong Hall, Chonnam National University. Serving as the longest Korean Ambassador to China from 2001 to 2008, he has seen how the Sino-Korean relationship had flourished and has been vital not only for the development of the Korean economy but of the world. He has noted the importance of the economic exchange between China and Korea, bigger than any other bilateral exchange it has with other countries.

Noting that the Kim Dae-jung Administration was the administration that valued the exchange with the world’s second largest economy, he said that two countries mutually respect for each other. He has noted as well that through the exchange with China, more human movement is seen. “As Hallyu, or the interest to Korean popular and traditional culture, hits China, Hanpung or the movement of Koreans to China is seen much bigger than ever,” the former minister says noting the huge number of Korean students studying at Chinese universities, bigger than any other nationality. This human exchange, he says, is the strongest form of exchange that the two countries need in order to boost and improve its bilateral relationship in the future.

Last year, in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the university, the Yongbong Forum was held in succession and the forum last April 17th is the first for 2013.
