By Rigoberto Banta Jr., Head Student Editor

Chonnam National University (CNU) is currently looking for passionate CNUians to join the ranks of the CNU Student Ambassadors. 15 hopefuls will be chosen as ambassadors, 13 from the Gwangju campuses, 2 from Yeosu and an additional maximum of 2 from the special admissions list. The new ambassadors will be the 14th batch since the installment of this program.

Applicants should be a sophomore undergrad as of March 4, 2013, has a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 for his or her freshman year, and should be able to join the program for 2 years. This year, students who have oral language proficiencies in English, Chinese or Japanese will be favored. According to Kim Sam-yeol, coordinator of the CNU Student Ambassadors, the application for the program is seen to be competitive as ever. “We have seen a 6 to 1 rate in 2012 and we are expecting a similar competition rate this year, same as the previous years.

The CNU Student Ambassadors Program is a coveted program as it has enhanced the lives of the students who have been part of it. Ahn Seon-hu (Junior, Dept. of Public Administration), current president of the organization, explained in the recruitment briefing that alumni of the organization are said to be favored in the employment field. Hyundai and Kia Motors, LG Innotek and POSCO are just some of the conglomerates that alumni of the prestigious organization have successfully landed right after their graduation from the university. “The CNU Student Ambassadors Program is a life-changing experience and I hope that more CNU students will accept the challenge to become one,” says Ahn. Student Ambassadors help the university by welcoming its domestic and international guests as well as to promote the university by attending its functions and leading the promotional events of CNU. In return, they receive a scholarship directly from the CNU Planning Division, recognition of volunteer hours, and an opportunity to be sent abroad, according to the information sheet about the program provided by the organization.

The details of the application for the program can be seen on the homepage of CNU. The application for 2013 is until March 20, Wednesday. Applications will enter the screening process first, and a two-stage interview test will be held to sift the best amongst the best. The two-stage interview includes a sit-down interview for the first stage and an on-stage interview for the second stage. Successful applicants will be notified separately by text message.
