Chonnam National University (CNU) held the 2013 English camp for its successful applicants. The 1st camp started last January 2nd 2013 and finished last January 21st 2013 limited to only 100 successful applicants who applied through the nonscheduled admission. A 2nd English Camp will be conducted from January 22nd to Feburary 8, 2013.
CNU English camp was implemented since 2009 to reduce high cost of money to learning English and CNU is the first amongst national and state universities to do so. Currently, most CNUians passed this English camp before entering the university. Students participating in the program, especially those who come from outside of Gwangju can avail the lodging available on campus such as the BTL.
The English camp is for 14 days, a total of 84 hours for English lessons which is divided into 28 hours for 4 different domains. In class, students only can speak English so they can improve their communication skill. Students are required as well to do lots of group work so they can learn the university life and the spirit of team work. One participant, Park Soo-yeon (Freshman, Department of Nursing) said “In high school I always listened American pronunciation and it is refreshing to hear many kinds of pronunciation in this camp.”
