The newly installed Dean of the Office of International Affairs (OIA) Kim Young-man (Professor, Dept. of New Materials Engineering), would see to it that the exchange between CNU and its partner universities abroad will increase, as well as the exchange between local and foreign students.
“By increasing the international exchange of CNU, we will be able to provide the experience that will shape our students.” Dean Kim Young-man stressed on the importance of experience. “Experience is very important. By knowing the world, a person will be able to build up confidence in his life. While through education we can extend the boundaries of imagination, personal experience through exchange and discussion enhances the capabilities of self-realization.” He saidthat the OIA shall spearhead in providing the method and support for this to materialize.
Dean of OIA talk about his firm will
As CNU faces decreased funding from the national government in 2013, will the proposed exchange be out of reach? Professor Kim said that it is not necessarily so. He believes that the proper appropriation of funds will be the fundamental answer to this question for now. “In order to increase the exchange within limited finances, we can decrease the funding per person and increase exchange programs on campus to extend the reaches of our programs to more students.” The OIA plans to increase programs similar to the Pre-exchange Student Program that prepares students who wants to be sent abroad.
Professor Kim sees that the active participation of the faculty to increase the number of foreign students at CNU is a way to maintain the increasing population steady. “Professors can increase the support they give to foreign students using research funding provided by external companies.” He added that the increase of foreign graduate students will be a major focus of the OIA in the years to come.
