CNU was unsuccessful in receiving a support fund from the government for the Education Capability Reinforcement Project (ECRP) because it did not follow a strategy, the abolishment of the Direct Presidential Election System (DPES), claimed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to strengthen global competitiveness of higher education institutions in Korea. The ministry has supplied financial incentive to selected universities and encouraged them to run many programs for the reinforcement of education capability and to promote creative individuals to be global leaders. CNU's budget was reduces and the ECRPs are expected to be greatly damaged in scholarships and programs such as Dadok-Dadok, Ah-ha! Learning Community to strengthen the global capacity of the university. Kim Yeo-keun, President of the Professor's Association, said, "It is unfair to use the abolishment of DPES as an evaluation standard and the abolition or improvement of the DPES should be decided by the university itself, and not by force."
