Today’s students are more stressed than ever before, and want relaxing, healing and comforting. Many of these students are trying to achieve good emotional and mental health through various ways of resolving stress, or healing. The 2012 Student Life Survey of Chonnam National University shows that the number of students who have experienced stress and are in of need professional help while at university is about 65 percent of the population. Why do they feel stress? They have their own problems and worries. According to the 2011 Korea Statistics research on students’ lives, 23.5 percent worried about their aptitude for their major and academic record. This kind of worry makes them stressed out and makes them search for healing in order to survive in a highly competitive society, in which more and more capabilities including English proficiency, good grades, and extracurricular experiences are required. It makes students lose their minds. One student said, “Everyone around me is telling me to do what I want, but I don’t know what to do for the future. I’m not sure about my career.”
Students have many dreams but the reality of our education makes them forget their dreams and pursue what society demands without self-reflecting. This has produced continuous competitive cycles in Korea. Another student said, “These days, I’m up to my neck in work such as English study, major study, and doing volunteer work. I have no time to do other things. It’s beyond my control and this makes me lose confidence. I don’t even want to meet other people.” Likewise, many students are failing to satisfy their needs and desire for something. That is why they seek ‘healing’ the mind and soul to achieve peace of mind by looking back on themselves.
Basically ‘healing’ refers to the process of restoring one’s health which is necessary for a happy life. The number of college students that participate in healing related programs is increasing every year, which is evidenced in the research of The Ministry of Gender Equality & Family.  However, to simply join these programs is not the only way of healing. There are many kinds of healing methods

such as watching movies, eating delicious food and feeling a sense of achievement by overcoming physical limitation through mountain climbing, a nationwide long run.  There is nothing special about healing; everything can be the way of healing the mind. We can feel the effect of being healed even by listening to music which being played on the street, or someone’s words can be a good consolation to us. Most of them are likely to be a helpful means for relaxing, self-reflection and keeping a peaceful mind. We have our own problems, but at the same time we have our own methods of healing. No perfect man is in the world. Healing, comforting and happiness is inside of our minds. Make sure that you have time to find yourself and seize what you want.
