Muslim Women Have Individuality

Do you know the difference between Muslim and Islam? Islam is a religion. A Muslim is a follower of Islam. Most Muslim women wear the Hijab because they think that their sprit goes out through their arm and head. They have to hide their hair, arms and neck under the Hijab and wear the Baju Kurung to veil their body. Only their husband can see their hair. Some people might think that they feel stuffy and that they have no individuality. These thoughts are incorrect. They enjoy decorating themselves and also want to express their individuality.
Different countries or even families have different customs in wearing the Hijab. Some people can choose wearing the Hijab and Baju Kurung, and others wear casual clothes with the Hijab. You can see women wearing colorful Hijabs and Baju Kurungs with diverse patterns embroidered in the clothing coupled with fancy accessories. Ernie Ws (Sophomore, Dept. of Industrial & Computational Mathematicsat University of Malaya) said, “I think the way we express ourselves is the same as when other people wear clothes. I can also wear suitable accessories with the Baju Kurung, which has many designs, styles, and colors, so I can choose it. The choice depends on my taste.” They enjoy shopping with friends and some dye their hair and wear color lenses. Ayu Tri Lestari Utami (Senior, Dept. of International Relation at Padjadjaran University) said, “It’s not compulsory to wear the Baju Kurung in Indonesia. So I wear the Hijab with casual clothes. I like brooches, so I have many of them in the shapes of flowers, animals, fruits, and so on.”
Many Muslim women like their clothes and express their characters without limit through the Hijab and the Baju Kurung. The number of Islamic people in the world is increasing, but many people do not have enough information about Muslim. Now in the era of globalization, we have to learn about other cultures and have to put ourselves in the shoes of other people.
