Choi Il-goo, the anchor of MBC’s ”Weekend News”, visited Chonnam National University (CNU) on May 1st. He delivered a lecture entitled with “Do Things You Do Not Need to Do” for about two hours at 3 pm at Yongjigwan. Many people including students from the Department of Communication filled with the hall. In the lecture, he talked about his story and mainly stated five points: prepare great dreams, be steady to make dreams to come true, develop your special talents, be honest, and communicate with others. “Conscience without a behavior is the side of evil.” He especially mentioned Kim Dae-jung, 15th Korean president, and emphasized the role of journalists who should be honest and live up to their beliefs.
He is famous for his unique closing comment to give his opinions using respectful words and humorous expressions. He is viewed as making news show friendlier but damaging the anchor-image. However, it is likely that he has tried to make a viewer-friendly news program as mentioned in the lecture. Meanwhile, his participation in the MBC strike last February became an issue because of his high position.
