After the Podcast Naneun Ggomsuda (I’m a Petty-Minded Creep) got attention from the public, podcasts has emerged as an alternative option to traditional media. Here we have three excellent well loved podcasts.

Issue Teoleojuneun Namja (The Issue Presenter)
This podcast, also known as “Iteolnam”, is one of the most sensational. It covers a wide range of current events from social to political issues in South Korea. It may not be as funny as Naggomsu since it seems to be rather professional and takes a serious attitude toward the topics. However, it does not mean that it is complicated or boring. Even if you do not have a strong opinion about current issues, it is really enjoyable to listen to them discussing and analyzing social phenomena. Listening to the experts talking about problems that we are facing now such as “the government’s countermeasures against school violence” or “university tuition cuts” not only gives a chance to think about it on one’s own but also widens one’s view.

Tabaktabak World History
If you think history is a somewhat heavy topic, then Tabaktabak World History will blow your mind. Do not worry about studying history in a chronological order—this podcast will help you do so. Different stories are told varying from curiosities about the origin of Soju to Michael Jackson’s songs. It is brilliantly framed so that anyone can easily follow. Nam Gyeong-tae, the host, reads an interesting prologue and gives the relative history of something with another expert. The topic is easy and something that attracts our curiosity, for example, the origin of Seolleongtang (Ox Bone Soup) secrets of the Forbidden City, eight natural disasters that changed history of humankind. Keep listening to it and you will find you becoming effortlessly knowledgeable.

Kim Yeong-ha’s Book Reading Time
Yes, it is time to read a book! To pick the right book, to create a sensitive space for literature in your mind, this book could be your best mate in your pocket. While listening to Kim Yeong-ha, who is a writer himself, reading a part of a book or a poem with his soft and gentle voice, it feels as if I am reading a book with my ears. The host comfortably leads audiences to the world of literature with helpful comments on books, authors and backgrounds of the books. The information he gives is a great pleasure to learn. You are not an enthusiastic book reader? No pressure. Feel free to listen to it. It will make you want to dash to a book store and grab a book.
