Be Brave! Mistakes Make Us Better

By Jung Hyun-young, Head Student Editor

Some days ago, I was surprised to hear that my acquaintance decided not to take the last entrance interview for a popular company because she feared that she might fail the interview. She seemed to be afraid that she would make a big mistake. I am worried about whether she will take the challenge next time, even if she has a greater chance.
We all make mistakes, and we grow smarter and wiser by learning from our mistakes. Children make many mistakes while learning how to ride a bike, and we know that they will learn and eventually master what they are trying to do through their mistakes. If so, why are we so harsh on ourselves when we make mistakes? Mistakes hurt, but we learn from them. If not, then the pain we suffer from them is for nothing. In fact, we make the same mistakes over and over again, until we finally learn from them. How do we learn from our mistakes? No matter how bad something may be, there are always many things to be grateful for. When I for the positives in a mistake, I feel that my mistakes magically transfer into good experiences, and the blessings attract more blessings. From my own limited experience, I am convinced humans can indeed change their minds and behaviors through constant training and admitting their mistakes. One point I want to emphasize here is that the most important thing is see the positives in every mistake that we can learn from. No matter what the mistake, there are always many good things that can come out of it. Your mistake will change your future for the better. You might be disappointed if you fail, but you certainly fail if you do not try. Making a mistake is just a process of trial and error for success. As the old saying goes: failure is mother of success.
