My Opinion about School Violence

First, I am very happy that I can express my opinion about school violence in the Chonnam Tribune. I consider it a serious social problem. Recently, there have been lots of issues about school violence. After I read the article written by an overseas correspondent, I felt ashamed because of the Canadian students' response when they heard the news related to Korean school violence. I was also very shocked when I heard the news about school violence. it must be crueler and more serious than I expected. I think that school programs for violence prevention have no effect at all. Although I took a program for violence prevention, I did not concentrate on the program and talk with classmates and try to send a message. I agree with the opinion of the reporter who wrote the cover story. She said that members of society should be aware of all kinds of violence. It would be more helpful than institutional measures, such as expelling from school or recording students' deeds on their registration cards, as they might rouse assailant students' antipathy and create further problems for the victim. Additionally, assailants are middle and high school students. They are likely to be influenced by emotional things. Therefore, we need to concentrate on the things that stimulate their feelings and make them feel sorry for victims. I hope that I do not hear the news about school violence anymore.
