What Do You Think of New Course Registration System?

By Kim Yoon-ji, Guest Reporter

CNU has changed its on-line course registration system this semester in order to resolve students’ complaints about the previous one. However, it has just left a bad aftertaste. The Chonnam Tribune interviewed some students to ask about the new course registration system.

Hyeong Ye-eun (Freshmen, School of Biological Science and Technology)
I was worried about my first course registration at the university. I did not know about the pre-registration for courses so I missed it. On registration day I woke up early and accessed the CNU portal site to register, but failed. I could register only after begging the department several times on the advice of my brother who is a senior at CNU. If I did not get his advice, I would never have succeeded. Every freshman should take a lecture of English for Global Communication 2, but I could not find information about the lecture in the site, so I confused it with Global Communication 1. It would be better if more information about courses was provided in the portal.

The new registration on-line system was certainly more pleasant, but it is not
of benefit to students. I heard that the headquarters opened all of the vacancies places in the registration period for seniors by mistake, so the vacancies for the other grade students were dramatically decreased, yet no explanation was offered. Students had a hard time registering for courses they want to take because there were so few vacancies compared to the number of students. Moreover, there are too
many double major students. I think more vacant places are needed by employing more part-time lecturers. Please let us take a lecture that we want.

Han Ji-su (Junior, School of Self-Designed Interdisciplinary Studies)
I heard the news that the registration record of students who registered for their courses with unallowable registration methods would be removed, and I was totally underwhelmed. After the registration war, I felt that nothing had changed compared to the previous system. The change was just a simple measure which makes students feel anxious. The University should focus on establishing more registration servers, increasing course vacancies, and arranging an alternative registration system for courses.
